10th cohort and 100th “Marine Renewable Energies” Specialized Advanced Master graduate

Over the last 10 years, the Brest partners have trained engineers who are future project leaders or program managers, and who participate in the development of systems or marine renewable energy production.

Accredited by the Conférence des Grandes Ecoles (French graduate school accrediting body), the specialized advanced master MRE expert has been recognized from the very beginning by the Pôle Mer Bretagne Atlantique and the Institut pour la Transition Energétique France Energies Marines.

These are the 4 great themes covered by the training bringing expertise in MREs to the students and professionals who choose this path.

An appraisal of the 10 years

Enthusiasm has certainly not waned : with an average of 11 graduates per year, 100% employment after graduation and for the 90% on MRE projects, the objectives of the Brest team have been achieved.

This enthusiasm is shared by the 2019 valedictorian: "The training program is broad and extremely complete scientifically, technically and socio-economically. You need to hold on in there, as 6 months of lessons and then 6 months of internship go really quickly. Everyone in the different years and around us is highly motivated.".

This training program has brought us a lot. It enabled us to line up our professional lives and personal convictions. We want to ensure energy transition and contribute to solving global warming. Alternative energy production is urgent.

Jean-Yves Pradillon, the associate professor at ENSTA Bretagne who is in charge of the training:

"The specialized advanced master MRE expert is celebrating its 10th anniversary. At the same time, France Energies Marines has received the go-ahead and finance to follow its research and development programs. That’s a great shot in the arm for MREs! The MRE Expert specialized advanced master is one of the flagship training programs of Campus Mondial de la Mer. Brest has exceptional skills in maritime activities, engineering and management, in terms of training, research and industry. It is the only city in France to propose training at this level which is entirely dedicated to marine renewable energies.
The program lasts a year. It is a degree equivalent to 6 years post high school certificate. The average number of students is 10 to 12 students per year. They already have the equivalent of a 5 year post high school certificate degree or professional experience and come from all over France: Brittany, the Pays de la Loire, Vendée, Charentes, Gironde, Landes, the Basque Country, the Mediterranean and also abroad. Half the classes are in English. And we are proud of the professional careers of our 100 first graduates. I would like to add that our training is becoming more international as 4 out of the 12 new graduates are foreign, from Algeria, Brazil, Cameroon and Argentina."
