ENSTA Bretagne : Sciences mécaniques

Mechanical Science Research: Institute de Recherche Dupuy de Lôme (IRDL)

ENSTA Bretagne's mechanics department research professors are members of the IRDL (Joint Research Center 6027 of the CNRS). This laboratory also hosts researchers from Université de Bretagne Sud (UBS), Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), ENIB (École Nationale d'Ingénieurs de Brest) and CNRS.

With 300 members, this lab is the largest in its field in Brittany. It is divided into 5 research areas (pôles thématiques de recherche, or PTRs):

•    PTR 1: Composites, biocomposites, and nanocomposites
•    PTR 2: Multi-material assemblies
•    PTR 3: Structures, fluids and interactions
•    PTR 4: Energy systems
•    PTR 5: Material behavior and durability

ENSTA Bretagne's research concentrates on PTRs 2, 3 and 5 (in bold above).

IRDL has identified three cross-cutting sectors representing the main fields in which its research is applied, and which define its unique position in France:

•    Sea (shipbuilding, offshore construction, marine renewable energies)
•    Transport (automotive and aeronautic)
•    Defense (naval and land)
