Appointment of Laurent Giovachini

ENSTA Bretagne
Laurent Giovachini has been appointed Chair of the ENSTA Bretagne Board of Directors and re-appointed in his position as Chair of the ENSTA Paris Board of Directors

By Decree of the President of the Republic dated March 6, 2024, Mr. Laurent Giovachini has been appointed Chair of ENSTA Bretagne’s Board of Directors. He takes over from Jean-Georges Malcor, who had chaired the Board since 2020. Mr. Giovachini joined ENSTA Bretagne’s Board of Directors in January 2024, as a qualified individual member representing industry. He had stood in as Interim Chair since February 7, 2024.

He has also been reappointed in his position as Chair of the ENSTA Paris Board of Directors, which he has held since April 2020.
Mr. Giovachini’s dual chairmanship of the ENSTA Bretagne and ENSTA Paris Boards of Directors is in keeping with the planned merger of the two schools. The first step will be the financial amalgamation on January 1, 2025, followed by the first intake of students for the new engineering courses common to both campuses, announced for September 2026.

For Laurent Giovachini,

“The merger of the two ENSTA engineering schools and the creation of the new ENSTA, at the Institut Polytechnique de Paris, is a project that we began with Jean-Georges Malcor, Elisabeth Crépon and Bruno Gruselle. As industry representative, I am delighted to be involved in this creation and consolidation of the ENSTA brand. The new ENSTA will combine the strengths and expertise of the two ENSTA schools on its Brest and Palaiseau campuses to meet the key contemporary, industrial and societal challenges in the sovereignty sectors: defense and security, energy, transport and mobility, healthcare, the sea and digital technology.”

As an alumnus of ENSTA Paris, his postgraduate school of choice after graduating from École polytechnique (X, 1980), and engineer-general (IGA), Laurent Giovachini began his career in 1985 at the Defense, Procurement and Technology Agency (DGA). In 1991, he was appointed Technical Adviser to the Defense Minister. He returned to the DGA in 1993 before joining the Direction des constructions navales (now Naval Group) in 1996 as Secretary-General.

In 1997, he was appointed Technical Adviser to the Prime Minister, and then in 1999 he became Deputy Chief of Staff for the Defense Minister. He subsequently held the posts of Director of Cooperation and Industrial Affairs then Director of Weapon Systems at the DGA, before his appointment in 2006 as Deputy Director of the DGA. In 2011, he became CEO of CS Group then in 2013 he joined the digital services company Sopra Steria, where he has served as Deputy CEO since 2015.

In 2018, Laurent Giovachini was elected President of the Syntec Federation, and re-elected in 2021.
